K J Yesudas Awarded Swathi Puraskaram

Veteran carnatic vocalist K.J. Yesudas has been awarded the Swathi Puraskaram .The award is the highest honour to be given out in the musical field by the Kerala Government as it’s named after composer Swati Tirunal.Yesudas will receive Rs.1 lakh and a memento as a token of appreciation.

Minister for Culture M.A. Baby made the official announcement in recognition of the contribution the musician has made to the state’s culture and upholding its name in the field of music almost single handedly.

The judging  headed by ‘mridangam’ vidwan Umayalpuram Sivaraman also announced other awards including Kuroor Valiya Vasudevan Namboodiri and Kalamandalam Gangadharan who will receive the Kathakali Puraskaram. Edakka maestro Tripunithura Krishnadas and Panchavadyam expert Karavattedathu Narayana Marar who will be awarded with The Pallavur Appu Marar Puraskaram.While the Nrithya-Natya Puraskaram will be given to Guru Gopalakrishnan and M.P.Parameswara Panicker.
